About

Kari Hughey

Tax Preparer · 19 Years of Experience

I earned my business degree in accounting from Oklahoma State University in 2007 and began my career doing monthly financials and preparing returns at a CPA firm in Austin. I then spent eight years as financial controller for a private equity investment company. When that company was acquired, I took the opportunity to step back and start our family, and began preparing taxes for friends and family. Through referrals, that work has grown into what it is today: Creekside Tax Advisory.

Those years in the controller's seat shape how I work today. I read your return the way an owner reads a financial statement: what happened, why, and what to do next. Many of my clients came to me after years of having a return filed with no one looking at it closely. That's the gap I work in. I go through every return carefully, ask the questions that turn up missed deductions and better strategies, and check in before year-end, when there's still time to act.

I work from our home in the country outside Anna, Texas, a short walk from the creek this practice is named for. I keep my practice small on purpose, so every client gets my full attention.
